Our Mission

The Center in the Woods mission is to provide the highest quality of life for older adults in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The Center in the Woods Inc. (CITW) provides a wide range of community based programs and services to thousands of older adults and their families from 90 communities in a five county area. Those services include: noon-time congregate and home delivered meals, physician and lab services, educational culture/enrichment activities, exercise/wellness programs, massage therapy, volunteer opportunities, tax preparation assistance, and adult day care services. Our adult day care center serves frail older adults with multiple physical and/or mental impairments such as advanced dementia, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease, incontinence, tube feeding, and other multiple mental and physical impairments. Through a partnership with Presbyterian Senior Care, the Center In The Woods provides senior housing services at the Oaks, an independent living facility attached to our California site. In addition, the CITW provides space to the Washington County Child Head Start Program where preschool children and older adults partner to conduct intergenerational programs. The Pennsylvania 49th District State Representatives Office is also located within the facility providing constitutes with information and assistance with state and local programs/services. A number of important health care services are provided to the community through an onsite health clinic operated by Mon Vale Practices Health Services making health care more accessible to residents in a number of rural communities. Such services include a family practice physician, Podiatrist, and blood lab services.

The CITW also partners with California University of Pennsylvania, Penn State Fayette Campus, and Washington Hospital School of Nursing providing students with internships and work study opportunities. The CITW offers students an opportunity to work with frail older adults who are experiencing multiple physical and mental health issues. Students receive valuable work experiences preparing them for a range of career choices.
